Zimbabwe - a Wonder(full) Country

Zimbabwe is Off The Track’s favourite safari destination offering Africa’s most exclusive wildlife, the largest waterfall on the continent and four UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Airport: Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (Harare), Victoria Falls International Airport, Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (Bulawayo)

Capital: Harare

Currency: USD

Malaria: There is a high risk of malaria throughout the country, all year round, so prophylactics are recommended – please discuss your options with your local doctor

Visas: Visas are required by most visitors to Zimbabwe and can usually be obtained at your point of entry.

What to pack: Neutral and lightweight clothing is recommended for safaris, don’t forget to include a warm fleece in summer and lots of layers in winter. Comfortable walking shoes are a must along with sunscreen, sunglasses, swimming attire, binoculars and obviously your camera!

When to visit: Best time for game viewing, especially in Hwange, is May through October. This is also the best time to view Victoria Falls as the water level drops. August to December is great white water-rafting, with bigger and better rapids and the rainy season, November to April, offers the best deals.

Where to go: Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park, Mana Pools National Park, Kariba, Matobo Hills National Park, Gonarezhou National Park, Eastern Highlands and Great Zimbabwe Ruins.
